The Harris Township Fire Station 2 was an integral part of the community’s emergency services until December 31, 2009. On January 1, 2010, Harris Township Fire and Clay Fire joined forces, transforming the building into Clay Fire Station 4. This collaboration marked the beginning of enhanced fire protection and emergency services for the Harris Township area.
In 2012, significant renovations were undertaken to accommodate the widening of State Road 23 (SR 23). These updates were essential for maintaining the station’s functionality and improving its integration with the surrounding infrastructure.
In 2013, the station was officially renamed Station 24, reflecting its continued role and commitment to serving the Harris Township community.
Station 24 is strategically located at 13981 State Road 23, covering approximately 9.5 square miles of the Harris Township community. The service area includes 3 miles of the I-80/90 Indiana Toll Road and extends from Gumwood Road to the West, the Canadian National Railroad to the East, the Michigan State Line to the North, and reaches down to the City of Mishawaka and Douglas Road to the South. This coverage ensures that Station 24 is well-positioned to respond to a diverse range of emergencies throughout its district.
Station 24 is equipped to handle various emergency scenarios with its well-maintained facilities. The station can accommodate up to five firefighters on a 24-hour basis, ensuring a ready and capable team is available at all times.
